Today while working with one of my teenage clients (and her friend), the following conversation took place:
Teen 1: (looks out window of my car) There goes some Mexicans.
Me: I keep telling you that they are not all Mexicans. The proper thing to say is Hispanic.
Teen 2: But that is what they are.
Me: How do you know?
Teen 1: They all look the same.
Me: That is offensive.
Teen 2: (to teen 1) It's no point in arguing with her. She wants to be all proper. She talks like a white girl. We call other people either Mexicans or Chinese.
Me: (having the overwhelming sensation to bang my head on the car window)
This is our future. Be afraid....
